Cascadia Subduction Zone Earthquakes

Everyone is waiting for the big one out of the Pacific Northwest.  The area has been quiet for over 310 years and its average “meta-thrust earthquake” timing is 247 years.  Therefore the area is overdue for a major release between the Juan de Fuca and North American crustal plates.  Here are the results of the Geodetics evaluation of the possible cause and timing of the historical and future events.  This is not meant to be alarmist but will hopefully allow researchers another tool to use in the evaluate of the areas historical ETS and Earthquake events.  LVB

Cascadia Subduction Zone Earthquakes

In the past few decades a new danger zone for earthquakes has been identified in the Pacific Northwest.  It is called the Cascadia Subduction Zone.  The most recent event that has been identified occurred Jan 27, 1700 at 9pm LMT.  How do we know this?  The answer comes from across the Pacific Ocean from Japan.  On that date in history, Japan experienced what was labeled an “orphan tsunami”.  By this it was meant that there was no known earthquake to have produced it.  This notation in the natural history of a nation 5000 miles away and subsequent investigation along the Oregon/Washington coast of the “Ghost forest” began the process of answering the question of if the Plates of the Pacific Northwest were really that quiet.[1]  What research since then has shown is that it is not as quiet as it seems.  During these investigations a new type of event was found to have been occurring beneath the feet of the Pacific Northwest’s residents.  What are called ETS for Episodic tremor and slippage events?  These are events that occur deep underground in the subduction area of the crustal plates and result in the shifting of the plates without creating a surface earthquake or movement.  [2]

The research has given the world a new tool for evaluating earthquakes and plate movements but has left the biggest question of all still unanswered.  How can we tell they are going to occur.  In my research I have found a consistent pattern event that is present in the timeframes of all the noted ETS events and actual surface earthquakes.  By using this information the ability to determine a “possible” ETS or earthquake can be made.  But to see the pattern you do not look to the ground beneath your feet but to the sky above your head. 

 

Basic Underlying Theory at Work

This paper is based upon on years of Geodetics research that I have done and is the result of studying hundreds of natural events that could not be explained as for cause.  It is a consistent pattern found in all natural disasters from all points of history. 

The underlying physics of this approach is that the Sun, Moon and planets create gravitation and electro-magnetic effects upon the crust and structure of the earth.  It also utilizes the theory that certain points of the earth tie to particular points in the celestial sphere.[3]  Some would call this astrology.  I do not as I am not looking at the “inter-relational effects of planets” but at their gravitational effects upon the earth.  In the days of the ancients they considered the gravitational effects of the planets and coded this work into what is known as the Kabala.  One author, Walter Gorn Old aka Sepharial, wrote extensively on this numbering system although much of the understanding is written in a veiled manner.  But even his words will point the studious student to the actual meaning of the Kabbala system of numbering the planets. 

Planet numbers as assigned by the ancients:  Sun 1 and 4, Moon 2 and 7, Jupiter 3, Mercury 5, Venus 6, Saturn 8, and Mars 9[4]

Further each sign of the zodiac was given a number to represent it.  These are not critical to our current work but to the curious reader I would say read Sepharial’s, Cosmic Symbolism for more information.

 

Returning to the planetary numbers a bit of thought should bring to mind the gravitational effect of each planet and a realization that the order ties to that level of gravitational effect on the earth.  Now one would say the Sun is less than the moon in its gravitational effect but the ancients would never have put the moon first as it was known it was the Sun that gave life. IF you consider that you will find that the order of gravitational effect of the planets is Moon, Sun, Jupiter, Mercury, Venus, Saturn and Mars.  Now we could point out also that Mercury has a lesser gravitational effect than Venus but the difference is slight and that due to the effect on the gravitational events on the Sun one could see that Mercury would be seen to be stronger than Venus. So in this we learn that the ancients did understand gravity even if they could not directly define the physics. 

So what now?  If we move onto the actual events we draw on knowledge of Geodetic Equivalents as taught by Ptolemy, Sepharial and other ancient writers, the weather predicting of Kepler, Ptolemy, McCormack and many other writers who associated earth’s weather events to celestial influence.  Then we begin to apply that knowledge to other types of natural events.  Now I am not the creator of these systems but I have discovered a required modification to the placement of events and determination of effects.  Otherwise many events appear random with no underlying cause. This I call the Spherical Harmonics of Geodetics.  This basically is the fact that for every event occurring in the celestial sphere there are up to 4 distinct points where the effects can occur on the earth based on a spherical harmonic correlation between the different points. It also utilizes the ancient view that what occurs can be foretold by those planets visible at a point in Longitude and Latitude.  Bringing both of these factors together can answer most if not all of the ETS and Earthquake events that man can observe.

Finding the cause

One would ask how one locates the cause of the events from the myriad of events that occur in the heavens every day.  The answer is not always easy but it is one of finding a common thread.  Over the course of my research into natural disasters I have read numerous books of prediction and forecasting and there are some simple rules that most follow.

1.       Look to the eclipses.  Now this makes perfect sense as this event is one of the greatest gravitational events the earth experiences.

2.       Look to the other soli-lunar events.  There are not as strong as an eclipse but represent a lower class of gravitational events.

3.       Outer planets positions and events: These are in the next lower class of events and yet if the position is evaluated can bring almost as much gravitational effect as the Class 2 Soli-lunar events. 

In restricting our evaluation to these 3 classes we began to find the key points to watch.  The level of event was also restricted as it needed to be an “upper level event”.  In terms of earthquakes this required one of two criteria, 1) Magnitude of 6 or greater for the event or 2) a rare occurrence event i.e. one that has not frequently occurred in the local area. For this we started at the Lisbon 1755 earthquake.  Its source was found to be an eclipse in the area and a subsequent planetary event.  Additional research of the Japan earthquake pattern and the west coast quakes confirmed this as a relevant trigger to earthquakes.  As we worked thru the earthquake list an odd event was also noted in 1755, a rare earthquake in the Cape off Massachusetts. Using the theory of geodetics equivalents it was clear that the event was not tied to the eclipse and would represent another trigger of large quakes. A review of the other components of our Class list revealed an unexpected yet understandable trigger,   Saturn in stationary position.  This event had been noted in McCormack[5] as a known trigger for large gales in the English Channel years ago.  So we added this event to our possible “earthquake trigger list”.  Many quakes were tied to this event and so we confirmed that the possible trigger was a strong likely trigger.  Then we moved to the San Francisco earthquakes and discovered that they were triggered by both eclipse and Saturn station.  It was also noted that in Aug 2 2015 Saturn would be stationary directly at the geodetic equivalent (GE) of San Francisco.  A prediction of a strong quake was made which is still pending as the writing of this article on July 29, 2015.

As we investigated the San Francisco area the issue of Subduction earthquakes in the Cascades was discovered.  The list of dates above is drawn directly from this search and the causes were evaluated.  Interestingly all these dates tie directly to Saturn stationary positions. 

Mechanics of the events

In most geodetic work one would expect the triggering event to occur directly overhead but in this case not all did and for an understandable reason.  Many of the above dates are no actual surface earthquakes caused by crustal rupture or movement but by movement in the deeper subduction zone of the Juan de Fuca and North American plates.  The subduction zone is not directly under the surface area where the crustal ruptures would occur but further inland.  One must also think of the mechanics of the crustal slippage.  If one were to press directly down upon a “rupture area” you would be pressing the two areas together and adding more restriction/locking, whereas if you move away from the actual meeting point and compress downwards you would ideally “lift” and edge allowing a bit of movement to occur without actually causing a crustal rupture.  It was this mechanics that allowed the determination of the causal point of the ETS events. For this evaluation we will use Seattle, WA. As our locale (47.6N, -112W) which translates to 238* Midhaven and 300* Ascendant.[6]

Applicable Events

In the Cascadian Subduction Zone events we have the following events available for evaluation:

Jan 26, 1700 (9.0+ Crustal rupture earthquake)

April 13, 1947 (7.1 deep earthquake event)

April 29, 1965 (6.5 deep earthquake event)

Aug 1999 (6.7 Plate reversal)

May 5, 2008 (ETS as recorded on tiltmeter)

 

Using an ephemeris, we are able to locate the pertinent positions of Saturn and it stationary positions.  In the table below we have identified the date of the ETS or earthquake, its type, the associated Saturn event and also a possible related event as often it is the additive force of multiple events that increase the strength of the ETS or Earthquake.

Conclusion

From the above table an assumption can be made as to the possibility of future ETS or significant earthquakes in the Cascadia Subduction Zone. An event of measurable value will have an increased probability of occurring when Saturn is in a position of stationary retrograde or stationary direct at the point of 323* +/- 5* average or a spherical harmonic of that point.  Reviewing the astronomical data tables shows that the following events are present:  

2013-2014 Saturn was at 238* area which resulted in the underwater Volcano eruption off the West Coast (see write-up)

2020- 2022: Another major ETS or Earthquake is likely to occur. Given the span of average events at the Cascadia Subduction zone of 247 years this increases the probability of this being a significant event.

There are other factors that will need to be considered but they are beyond the scope of this paper.  It is meant as only an introduction to the topic of Spherical Harmonics and Astronomy as predictors of notable earthquake events. The smaller 14-16 month time frame events will likely be correlated in the same way but with different causative factors. [7]
